History of the Estate Domaine Méo-Camuzet

        the story of Domaine Méo-Camuzet

From the Gallo-Roman era to the present day

        Domaine Méo-Camuzet, a family story

THEDomaine Méo-Camuzetis a Burgundy vineyard located inCôte-de-Nuitswhich has existed since Gallo-Roman times. Indeed, although there are no longer any vineyards in the village of Selongey today, a pressing room dating from the year 50 was discovered there. Traces of the Méo family at the head of the vineyard can be found more than four centuries ago. In the 19th century, however, the potential successors to the estate within the Méo family were more interested in teaching and engineering, so it was the Camuzet branch of the family that took over. Finally, Jean Méo returned to the head of the estate and, in 1983, instituted the bottling of the wines under the name ofDomaine Méo-Camuzetwith a view to international exports. Jean-Nicolas, son of Jean and his wife Nicole, would later take over from his father after graduating from business school. He would also create, with his sisters Isabelle and Angéline, the trading company Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs, in order to address the lack of supply compared to ever-increasing demand. The owners ofDomaine Méo-Camuzetconstantly innovate in order to position themselves among themust-sees of Burgundyboth in France and abroad.

A typical estate of the Côte-de-Nuits appellation

The excellent terroir of Domaine Méo-Camuzet

THEDomaine Méo-CamuzetThe estate covers 17.2 hectares of vineyards, the majority of which (13.7 hectares) is planted with red grape varieties. The decision was made to cultivate exclusively Pinot Noir, which is perfectly suited to the Burgundian climate and the gentle slopes of the limestone hillsides drained by the pebbles found in the Côte de Nuits. This grape variety allows for the production of remarkable red wines, full of depth and subtlety. The remaining 3.6 hectares are dedicated to white wines, again with a single grape variety, Chardonnay Blanc. Its expression is optimal on the limestone soils and very clayey marl, also found in the Côte de Nuits, which yield excellent dry white wines. The great variety of the terroir ofDomaine Méo-CamuzetThe size of its vineyards allows for a wide range of different wines each vintage. You can begin by tasting the Grand Cru wines of Richebourg, Echezeaux, Clos Vougeot, and Corton. The estate also offers Premier Cru wines: Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Fixin, as well as village wines and regional appellations. These wines have excellent aging potential, ensuring you will enjoy them for years to come.

The unique expertise of the owners of Domaine Méo-Camuzet

The choice of sustainable and organic viticulture

The owners ofDomaine Méo-CamuzetThey are committed, generation after generation, to managing the vineyard in the most sustainable way possible. Indeed, the work in the vineyards is carried out without any chemical inputs or mechanical tools. The harvest is therefore logically done entirely by hand, with several successive sortings to retain only the optimally ripe grapes. This also allows them to control yields, a philosophy complemented by a minimal-intervention winemaking process that highlights the unique terroir of the Côte-de-Nuits.

As you will have understood, it is very important for the owners of theDomaine Méo-Camuzetto adopt the most environmentally friendly viticulture possible. All these techniques allow us to produce wines whose structure and finesse will charm you, all enhanced by a perfect natural balance. Furthermore, the size of the vineyard and the diversity of its terroir will allow you to taste a wide variety of wines, ranging from Grand Cru to Premier Cru, not forgetting the Villages and regional appellations.
