The release of Château Pontet-Canet 2025 marks the true start of the Primeurs campaign — a major first statement and a reference eagerly awaited by the market.
Pioneer of the biodynamics in Pauillac, Pontet-Canet has experienced a meteoric rise thanks to the consistent quality of its wines, year after year. This natural approach has given the wine an intense depth, with more precise and silky tannins. The finish now lingers with more pronounced mineral notes; the wines are now purer and more vibrant.
James Suckling: 97-98/100 - A precise and elegant wine, with perfect integration of fruit and polished tannins that offer a caressing and seductive mouthfeel. It is medium-bodied, with lovely fruit, a delicate character, and remarkable sweetness and charm. Yet, it maintains a beautiful structure.
The 2025 Vintage: The Balance Between Strength and Control
The 2025 vintage of Château Pontet-Canet capture one rare balance between climatic extremes and the precision of human intervention. After an unusually mild winter and a rainy April that led to early and remarkably even budbreak, the season abruptly shifted to four months of near-drought, with barely 96 mm of rain recorded. Under these conditions, the vineyard progressed at a sustained pace, but without imbalance: flowering was rapid under constant heat, while life-saving summer rains preserved vine activity, ensuring a early and regular veraison — always the distinctive sign of a great terroir.
Expert Opinion: A Tasting Under the Sign of Energy
What struck us most during our tasting at the estate was the serenity of the fruit despite these climatic tensions. The grapes ripened "in the shade", retaining remarkable energy and freshness, the result of meticulous management of the leaf surface and biodynamic practices adapted to the extremes of the vintage.
The harvest began as early as September 2nd for the Merlots — a unprecedented precocity here — before a break allows the grapes to regain their concentration after the late August rains. The resulting wine expresses both the power of the season and the restraint of a team that clearly knows its stuff. All with a exceptional value for money.
