The Château Lafite Rothschild vineyard spans 112 hectares of exceptional terroir, composed of deep, fine gravel over a limestone subsoil, ideal for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines, averaging over 40 years old, are cultivated using sustainable viticulture practices, blending tradition and innovation. This exceptional soil imparts to the wine its ethereal structure, minerality, and incredible aging potential. Each plot is worked with meticulous precision to fully express the quintessence of the Pauillac terroir, the inimitable signature of the Lafite Rothschild style.

Owner and history

Since 1868, the Rothschild family has owned Château Lafite. Today, Saskia de Rothschild embodies the new generation, passionately managing this prestigious family heritage. With a dual background in journalism and oenology, she combines respect for tradition with an openness to sustainable innovation. Under her leadership, the estate is strengthening its environmental commitment while maintaining the historical excellence of its wines. This transmission of high standards, rigor, and a long-term vision allows Lafite Rothschild to retain its unique place among the world's greatest wines, a true living legend of Bordeaux.

Vinification and aging

At Château Lafite Rothschild, winemaking is a mastered art. The grapes, carefully selected by hand, ferment in wooden and stainless steel vats under precise temperature control. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately 15 days, followed by natural malolactic fermentation.
The aging process, a key stage, takes place over 15 to 20 months in French oak barrels, crafted on-site by the Tonnellerie des Domaines. This meticulous process allows for the development of a refined tannic structure and exceptional aromatic complexity, characteristic of Lafite wines. Vines over 10 years old are used exclusively for the Grand Vin, guaranteeing optimal quality.
