The Château Pape Clément vineyard stretches across clay-limestone soils, ideal for cultivating noble grape varieties. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on well-exposed slopes, benefiting from optimal sunshine. The oceanic climate, with its maritime influences, allows for a slow and even ripening of the grapes, thus guaranteeing the aromatic richness of the wines. Careful vineyard management, combined with environmentally friendly practices, contributes to the authentic expression of the terroir in every bottle.

Owner and history

Château Pape Clément is currently managed by Bernard Magrez, a visionary winemaker who has preserved the estate's heritage while embracing a modern approach. Under his leadership, the château has undergone significant improvements in both winemaking and vineyard management. Passionate about the Bordeaux terroir, Bernard Magrez is committed to producing high-quality wines that showcase the unique identity of Pessac-Léognan while respecting the environment and winemaking traditions.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Pape Clément is a meticulous process that begins with the hand-harvesting of the grapes, followed by rigorous selection. The berries are then destemmed and crushed before being placed in vats for controlled fermentation. Aging takes place in oak barrels, some of which are new, for 12 to 18 months. This stage allows the tannins to soften and delicate woody notes to develop. The result is a wine of great complexity, revealing the full richness of the Pessac-Léognan terroir.
