The Meerlust vineyard benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with cool winters and hot summers, ideal for growing Pinot Noir. The predominantly clay-limestone soils allow for excellent drainage, promoting the concentration of aromas and the complexity of the wines. The vines, some several decades old, are cultivated with care, respecting sustainable practices to preserve the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. Each plot is carefully selected to contribute to the final blend, reflecting the unique character of this South African terroir.

    Owner and history

Today, the Meerlust estate is run by the Myburgh family, who carry on the family legacy while incorporating modern practices. Their passion for wine and their deep connection to the land are reflected in every bottle. The owners are committed to maintaining Meerlust's reputation by producing high-quality wines while respecting the environment. Their dedication and expertise make Meerlust a pillar of the South African wine industry, attracting enthusiasts from around the world.

    Vinification and aging

The Meerlust Pinot Noir 2020 is crafted with meticulous care. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before being fermented in concrete and wooden vats, allowing for a gentle extraction of aromas. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, some of which are new, for 10 to 12 months. This method imparts an elegant structure and subtle oak notes to the wine, while preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit. Each stage of the winemaking process is designed to respect the integrity of the Pinot Noir, thus revealing its full complexity.
