The Family History of Château Lanessan
A property with an ancestral vineyard
THEChâteau Lanessanbelongs to theDelbos family since 1793, when Jean Delbos acquired it. The estate's vineyard then comprised 24 hectares. This Bordeaux château is located in the heart of theHaut-Médoc appellationrenowned for its very large estates, highly sought after throughout the world. Between 1878 and 1887, the architect Henri Duphot built the château that still stands today, as well as the wine cellar. Jean Bouteiller, great-grandson of Jean Delbos, then undertook the expansion of the vineyard from 1907 onwards, bringing it to 45 hectares.
The 2000s will mark a real turning point for theChâteau Lanessanincluding:
- the creation of a second wine: Les Calèches de Lanessan.
- the installation of a thermoregulation system in all the tanks.
- numerous improvements in vineyard and winery work.
Thus, the estate's wines undoubtedly gain in modernity and elegance, and are ever more representative of the exceptional terroir on which they are grown. In 2011, theChâteau LanessanThe estate adheres to the Environmental Management System, initiated by the CIVB, in order to adopt more sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture practices. Finally, since 2015, the estate has consulted with an oenologist.Hubert de Boüardin order to benefit from all of his expertise.

THE45 hectares of Château Lanessanare planted in a single block in the commune of Cussac-Fort-Médoc, in the heart of theHaut-Médoc appellationIt stretches from east to west across an exceptional ridge of deep Garonne gravel, which provides optimal natural drainage for the vines. They are on average 40 years old and are planted exclusively with red grape varieties, as is the case throughout the region.Haut-Médoc appellationFour different grape varieties are found within the vineyard:
- Cabernet Sauvignon (75%)
- Merlot (20%)
- Cabernet franc (1%)
- Petit Verdot (4%)
All this allows the production of several different vintages: Château Lanessan, Les Calèches de Lanessan, Château de Sainte Gemme and Voyage de Lanessan.

They continually improve their techniques, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, to remain at the forefront and among the best estates in the region.Haut-Médoc appellationThe harvest is carried out mechanically and the grapes are selected by optical sorting.Château LanessanThis wine offers a stunningly harmonious blend, rich and elegant. Les Calèches de Lanessan is a luscious, crisp, and refreshingly vibrant wine. The Château de Sainte Gemme cuvée is fruity, supple, and best enjoyed young. Finally, Voyage de Lanessan is full-bodied, spicy, and indulgent. There's something for everyone.
