History of the Estate Château Puech-Haut

            the story of Château Puech-Haut

            Gérard Bru

            a businessman at heart

Gérard Bru, owner of theChâteau Puech-HautHe truly built his vineyard in the same way he built his life. From a young age, he bought and borrowed many different things with the aim of reselling them. As a teenager, he created his first company, then his second. After selling his business, he went into commercial real estate. After these many years in business, he returned to his roots and rediscovered his love of hunting and...vineyardshared with his grandfather in the Minervois.

            In the lands of Languedoc

            between olive trees and scrubland

The Château Puech-Haut adventure began with the purchase of a plot of land for sentimental reasons. At that time, no vines were present and the terroir had not yet been classified.AOCIndeed, only olive trees and garrigue filled the landscape. However, the terroir was ideal for vines: soils composed of clay and limestone, covered with rounded pebbles. Thus, the olive trees were uprooted to make way for vines, and the farmhouse was replaced by a château. This was the beginning of the Puech-Haut adventure. Gérard Bru's advisor was Michel Rolland between 1996 and 2006. Philippe Cambie, the internationally renowned Côtes du Rhône specialist, succeeded him. His oenologist is Mathieu Ciampi, and his cellar master, Yves Gruvel, is a specialist in...Languedoc wines.

            The diversity of Puech-Haut

            present on 184 hectares

Initially, the grape varieties chosen were theGrenacheand theSyrahSubsequently, the purchase of neighboring plots allowed for the acquisition of old Carignan vines (50 to 60 years old) and the planting of Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. Thus, the estate now covers 184 hectares, including 92 in Saint-Drézéry and 19 in Pic Saint-Loup. The château employs the method of separating grape varieties and plots during vinification. The aim is to understand the potential of each plot. The blending of the various cuvées is carried out before bottling. The identity of theChâteau Puech-HautTheir reputation was built in particular on their red wines. The wines of Château Puech-Haut have a lot of character, and are powerful and full-bodied.
