The Au Bon Climat vineyard stretches across sunny hillsides, benefiting from a maritime climate that tempers the summer heat. The varied soils, rich in clay, limestone, and sand, allow the vines to draw the nutrients necessary for their flourishing. Planted with respect for biodiversity, the vines are cultivated with care, promoting sustainable viticulture that results in grapes of exceptional quality. Each plot is meticulously worked to reveal the best of its terroir, contributing to the unique identity of the wines produced.

Owner and history

Jim Clendenen, founder and visionary winemaker, is the heart and soul of Au Bon Climat. His passion for wine and his respect for nature led him to create an estate where each wine tells a story. With experience gained in Burgundy, Jim has successfully brought this expertise to California, cultivating grape varieties that thrive in this unique terroir. Today, his team shares this same passion and commitment, perpetuating the legacy of excellence and innovation for which Au Bon Climat is renowned.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for La Bauge Au Dessus begins with a manual harvest of the grapes, ensuring rigorous selection. After delicate destemming, the berries are placed in vats for temperature-controlled fermentation, allowing for the extraction of aromas while preserving the finesse of the Pinot Noir. Aging takes place in oak barrels, some of which are new, for a period that promotes the integration of oak aromas and the wine's complexity. This artisanal process, combined with meticulous attention to detail at every stage, ensures an authentic expression of the terroir.
