    Owner and history

The 20 hectares of vines that make up Clos Fourtet are unique in that they are actually surrounded by walls, giving this Bordeaux vineyard a touch of Burgundy. But make no mistake! It is indeed Merlot (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7%), and Cabernet Franc (3%) grapes that are cultivated on the clay-limestone soils of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Viticulture is practiced sustainably, treatments are organic, and the method is biodynamic. Once in barrels, the wines rest in a 13-hectare underground quarry. This quarry is a consequence of the construction of the surrounding towns. Stones were extracted from the ground, creating large cellars from the 12th to the 18th centuries. This intimate space now allows for optimal aging of the Clos Fourtet wines.
