Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, on Bordeaux's prestigious Left Bank, Château Palmer has embodied French elegance since the 19th century. Its second wine, Alter Ego, was first produced in 1998 and is distinguished by a more immediate and luscious expression of the terroir. A true gem of Margaux, this estate, classified as a Third Growth in 1855, cultivates a strong identity, nurtured by a rigorous biodynamic approach. Château Palmer is now renowned for the depth, balance, and sensuality of its wines, always marked by artisanal precision and a refined interpretation of its gravelly soils.

Tasting notes

Alter Ego 2015 displays a deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is expressive, with aromas of ripe black fruit, sweet spices, and well-integrated oak. On the palate, the wine seduces with its silky texture, fleshy volume, and remarkable balance. The tannins are elegant, supported by a lovely freshness. The finish is long and persistent, revealing hints of licorice and blackcurrant. A great Margaux in an accessible and refined expression.

Food & wine pairings

This Margaux pairs perfectly with a roast rack of lamb, a matured rib of beef or mushrooms stuffed with herbs.

Producer

Producer

The Château Palmer vineyard covers approximately 66 hectares of fine gravel soils typical of Margaux. These deep, well-drained soils, rich in quartz and pebbles, allow for excellent grape ripening. The vines, averaging 35 years old, have been cultivated biodynamically since 2008, promoting deep root systems and a natural balance. The diversity of grape varieties planted and the meticulous care given to each plot give Alter Ego a remarkable richness of expression.

Owner and history

Since 1998, Château Palmer has been managed by Thomas Duroux, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, formerly a winemaker at Ornellaia. Under his guidance, the estate underwent a complete conversion to biodynamic farming, aiming for a more precise and authentic expression of the terroir. Supported by the Mahler-Besse family and the Sichel family, its historical owners, he has elevated the château to the pinnacle of Bordeaux's great names, with a philosophy of respect, meticulous craftsmanship, and measured innovation.

Vinification and aging

At Château Palmer, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, grape variety by grape variety and plot by plot. Aging then occurs in French oak barrels, approximately 25 to 30% of which are new, for 18 to 21 months.
For Alter Ego 2015, the approach aims for the suppleness and brilliance of the fruit: the extraction is gentle, the blends carefully, and the aging perfectly integrated, revealing a harmonious and generous vintage.
