Description

Located in Verzy, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, Domaine Adrien Renoir embodies the new generation of Champagne winemakers. From a long line of winemakers, Adrien took over the family estate, instilling a handcrafted approach and a committed biodynamic philosophy. Working exclusively with Grand Cru vineyards, he showcases each specific plot through precise and profound Champagnes. The estate distinguishes itself through single-vineyard vinification, with no or very low dosage, expressing the pure typicity of each terroir. The 2019 3-vineyard wooden case perfectly illustrates this vision, a blend of authenticity, tension, and a strong identity.

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2019 box set reveals three fascinating interpretations of the same village.
Les Montants is distinguished by a direct attack, a chalky tension and accents of ripe citrus.
Les Épinettes brings more flesh, generosity and a delicate red fruit typical of Pinot Noir d'Ambonnay.
Les Vignes Goisses, often the deepest, displays remarkable breadth, fine floral notes, a silky touch and a long, saline and energetic finish.
The whole forms a powerful, precise, chiseled triptych, ideal for understanding the mosaic of grand cru terroirs of the estate.

Food & wine pairings

Perfect with oysters, sea bass ceviche or sea bream tartare with mango.

Sourced from Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay, Les Montants, Les Épinettes, and Les Vignes Goisses grow in predominantly chalky soils, sometimes mixed with sand or fine clay, which impart to the wines their straightforward, fresh, and profoundly saline character. Pinot Noir reigns supreme here, a true signature of the village, offering expressions that are at once floral, structured, and luscious. Vineyard work is based on a sustainable approach, respecting natural biodiversity and the soil's water balance.

Owner and history

The estate is now managed by Adrien Renoir, who carries on the family legacy while imprinting his own style: more focused on individual vineyard plots, more precise, more demanding. The Renoir family history spans several generations, each contributing to a meticulous approach to vineyard work and winemaking. Adrien, deeply attached to Ambonnay, crafts his champagnes as faithful portraits of their terroirs. This selection of three emblematic plots represents one of the finest testaments to the family's expertise and the richness of Ambonnay's exceptional terroir.

Vinification and aging

Each vineyard plot is vinified separately, with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, to preserve the terroir's unique character. The estate favors partial aging in oak barrels, judiciously, to impart subtlety and texture while maintaining aromatic purity. The wines remain on their fine lees until bottling, then benefit from extended cellar aging before disgorgement. This patient and precise process allows the minerality, energy, and depth characteristic of Ambonnay Grand Cru to fully reveal itself.
