A sort of essence of the spirit of the Rhône Valley. A Côtes du Rhône with vibrant fruit. Aromas of licorice, gingerbread, peony, redcurrant, blackcurrant... On the palate, there is a freshness and a round texture linked to its cool terroir: Saint Cosme is located exactly at the intersection of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate: balance, freshness and finesse characterize its wines.
Terroir : clay hillsides (ancient alluvium), calcareous marls, rolled pebbles.
Viticulture : organic farming. No herbicides, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or synthetic products are used. All the vines are hoed to prevent weed infestation. The ecosystem is dynamic and balanced; the soils are alive.
Winemaking : Whole cluster fermentation. Six-week maceration. Deux Albion is vinified in old concrete vats with 80 cm thick walls: the thermal inertia is remarkable, allowing indigenous yeast populations to thrive. This is a fundamental aspect of the wines' quality and identity.
Bottled without filtration.
The estate : Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, Saint Cosme is a historic estate, with its Gallo-Roman fermentation vats carved into the rock. The vines, predominantly Grenache, are old and cultivated using traditional methods. The Barruol family purchased the estate in 1490, and since then, 15 generations of winemakers have succeeded one another. Today, Louis Barruol is at the helm.
