The Château Mouton Rothschild vineyard covers 90 hectares, planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The gravelly soils provide excellent drainage and promote optimal grape ripening. The region's temperate oceanic climate, with maritime influences, contributes to the aromatic diversity and balance of the wines. The vines are cultivated with care, respecting natural cycles to best express the Bordeaux terroir.

Owner and history

Today, Château Mouton Rothschild is managed by the Rothschild family, who acquired the estate in 1853. Philippe de Rothschild, an iconic figure at the estate, masterfully blended tradition and modernity, transforming Mouton into a symbol of winemaking artistry. Under the leadership of his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the estate has continued to thrive, emphasizing innovation while respecting the family heritage. The Rothschild family's passion and commitment to excellence are reflected in every bottle.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Mouton Rothschild is carried out with meticulous care. The hand-harvested grapes are sorted and destemmed before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, a third of which are renewed each year. This method allows for the subtle integration of oak aromas while preserving the purity of the fruit. The result is a powerful, complex, and perfectly balanced wine, ready to age gracefully.
