The Château Valandraud vineyard is situated on clay-limestone soils, ideal for growing Merlot, the king of grapes in Saint-Émilion. The vines, some several decades old, benefit from a favorable microclimate, allowing for optimal grape ripening. Each plot is cultivated with care, incorporating environmentally friendly practices. The diversity of the soils enriches the aromatic profile of the wines, offering an authentic expression of the Bordeaux terroir.

Owner and history

Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Thunevin, the owners of Château Valandraud, are emblematic figures of modern winemaking in Bordeaux. Their passion for wine and their commitment to excellence have allowed Valandraud to rise to the ranks of the great wines. In 1991, they decided to turn their dream into reality by creating their own estate. Their innovative approach and attention to detail have redefined the standards of the Saint-Émilion appellation, making Valandraud a must-visit for wine lovers.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Valandraud is a meticulous process. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and then rigorously sorted. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, allowing for optimal temperature control. Aging occurs in oak barrels, some of which are new, to impart complexity and roundness to the wine. This meticulous process reflects the estate's commitment to producing high-quality wines while respecting the authenticity of the terroir.
