Description

Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Médoc, Château Talbot is among the most iconic estates in the Bordeaux wine region. Classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 classification, it benefits from an ideal location near the Gironde estuary, which fosters a temperate microclimate. The vineyard, a single contiguous plot, rests on perfectly drained gravelly slopes. Connetable de Talbot, the Château's second wine, brilliantly embodies the elegance and consistency of the estate. Approachable at a younger age, it shares the same rigorous selection process as its older sibling, while expressing a beautiful freshness and remarkable suppleness.

Connetable de Talbot 2014 boasts a deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose develops enticing aromas of ripe black fruit and cedar, with a subtle touch of spice. On the palate, the wine reveals a supple texture, smooth tannins, and a balanced structure. The harmonious and persistent finish leaves an impression of oaky finesse and crisp fruit, promising immediate enjoyment or excellent aging potential.

Producer

Producer

The Château Talbot vineyard covers over 100 hectares in Saint-Julien, on typical Garonne gravel soils resting on a clay-sand subsoil. This composition provides ideal natural drainage for the vines and promotes the concentration of the grapes. The vines, averaging 30 to 40 years old, are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with rigorous plot-by-plot monitoring that guarantees the truest expression of the terroir in each vintage.

Owner and history

Owned by the Cordier family since 1918, Château Talbot embodies Médoc tradition combined with a modern and sustainable vision of winemaking. Under the current management of Nancy Bignon-Cordier, the estate has reinforced its commitment to quality at every stage of production. Dedicated to sustainable viticulture, the owners have successfully evolved the style of the wines towards greater precision and elegance, while preserving the authenticity and character that have earned the estate its worldwide reputation.

Vinification and aging

The vinification of Connetable de Talbot follows the same requirements as the grand vin: fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration adapted to gently extract color and tannins.
The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, giving it structure, complexity, and aging potential. This meticulous attention to detail results in a balanced wine, ready to drink earlier than its older sibling, while still retaining its aging potential.
