Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2024 Le Méal Rouge displays a deep garnet color with purplish highlights in its youth. The nose reveals a beautiful intensity with notes of ripe fruit, candied blackberry, and subtle smoky hints. On the palate, the attack is velvety, the tannins powerful yet perfectly polished. The texture is ample and rich, supported by a lovely freshness and underlying minerality. The long and intense finish confirms its great aging potential.

Food & wine pairings

Ideal with a grilled rib of beef, a hare à la royale or a risotto with ceps and black truffle.

Owner and history

Le Méal is made exclusively from grapes grown on the eponymous hillside, one of the most emblematic in the Hermitage appellation. This hillside rests on high terraces composed of rolled pebbles mixed with clay, a soil that captures and releases heat while ensuring excellent drainage. The old Syrah vines, around fifty years old, draw from this soil a mineral depth and great concentration. This exceptional terroir gives rise to powerful, elegant wines, built for aging.

Vinification and aging

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand at perfect ripeness. They are 100% destemmed and then vinified in a small cement vat. High-temperature maceration promotes optimal extraction of aromas and tannins, resulting in supple, velvety wines with the structure to age well. Remarkably, only the free-run wine, the finest portion of the grapes, is used for this single-vineyard cuvée.
The wine is aged exclusively in oak barrels, either new or previously used for one vintage, for a period of 14 to 18 months. Clarification occurs naturally, without fining or filtration, in order to preserve the full complexity and aromatic purity of the wine.
