" This 1998 Château Margaux opens wonderfully in the glass. The palate is now ripe with a lively, vibrant acidity! " Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024, 92 points/100

Château Margaux is one of the world's most iconic and historic wine estates. It has produced some of the region's finest wines for over 600 years and has been owned by the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977. James Suckling described it as " the best wine ever made "... " There can be no better bottle of Bordeaux than a bottle of Margaux ," said Thomas Jefferson.

Despite its historical roots, it has never rested on its laurels, remaining at the forefront of producing the best Bordeaux wines.

The Château Margaux vineyard covers 82 hectares, spread across clay-limestone soils, ideal for vine cultivation. The vines' roots delve deep into these soils, allowing them to express the appellation's unique minerality. The temperate oceanic climate, with hot summers and mild winters, promotes optimal grape ripening. The diversity of grape varieties cultivated contributes to the complexity of the wines, while terroir-conscious viticultural practices guarantee consistent quality.

Owner and history

Currently managed by the Mentzelopoulos family, Château Margaux is in the hands of passionate individuals who have successfully blended tradition and modernity. After acquiring the estate in 2004, they invested in infrastructure to improve the quality of the wines while respecting its historical heritage. This couple, Corinne and André Mentzelopoulos, embody a long-term vision, committed to preserving the environment and promoting an authentic wine that perfectly reflects the Margaux terroir.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Margaux is a meticulous process, respecting tradition while incorporating modern techniques. The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring the selection of only the finest bunches. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats to preserve the aromas. Aging occurs in oak barrels, some of which are new, allowing the tannins to soften and the oak notes to develop. This care at every stage of winemaking is the key to the exceptional character of Château Margaux wines.
