Côte-Rôtie

The Côte-Rôtie AOC covers the communes of Ampuis , Saint-Cyr-du-Rhône, and Tupin-Semons, on the right bank of the Rhône River. It is located just outside Vienne, only about thirty kilometers from Lyon. Syrah is cultivated there in a mixed planting with Viognier , producing a delicate red wine with a beautiful ruby ​​color.

It is important to note the presence of two distinct terroirs within this appellation . To the north, the Côte Brune is based on mica schist soils. To the south, however, the Côte Blonde has its roots in gneiss and arzel, clayey sands.
Côte-Rôtie gets its name from its southern exposure, with very little northerly wind and a warm southerly breeze. The very steep slopes therefore get a beautiful, sun-baked sun!

Bonserine Estate

Domaine de Bonserine is located in Ampuis. It comprises 13 hectares of vineyards in the Rhône Valley , the vast majority of which are within the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It takes its name from the grape variety used, a very old Syrah called Serine, which is particularly aromatic. A small proportion of Viognier is also included. Sustainable farming practices are employed, including plowing, cover cropping, and leaf thinning.

Three red wines are produced in Côte-Rôtie at Domaine de Bonserine : “La Sarrasine”, “La Viallière” and “La Garde”. The latter is only produced in the best vintages. These wines must age for 10 to 15 years to reach their full potential.

Rostaing Estate

Domaine René Rostaing is also based in Ampuis. In the Rhône Valley , they cultivate 8 hectares of vines in Côte-Rôtie and 1 hectare in Condrieu. It is this terroir that René Rostaing seeks to express in his wines: they are therefore vinified in the same way and then aged for almost two years. Only the origin of the grapes creates the specific characteristics of each wine.

The three wines offered in Côte-Rôtie are “La Landonne”, “Côte Blonde” and the Cuvée Classique.
