Description

Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin , located in Ampuis in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, embodies the most refined expression of Syrah in the Northern Rhône Valley . For six generations, the Gérin family has cultivated its steep schist and mica schist terraces with precision and elegance. The 2023 La Landonne cuvée, from an exceptional micro-parcel, celebrates this strong identity with rare intensity, highlighting the estate's signature style and the unique character of the legendary La Landonne vineyard.

Notes and pairings

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The wine is a deep garnet with purplish highlights, hinting at its impressive density. The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackcurrant, wild blackberry, violet, licorice, and graphite, accompanied by a touch of smoke. On the palate, the attack is ample, the tannins powerful yet well-integrated into a dense and refined structure, underpinned by a mineral freshness. The finish is long, precise, saline, and elegant.

Food & wine pairings

Ideal with a rack of lamb with herbs, game in sauce or roast duck breast, accompanied by root vegetables and mild spices.

The La Landonne plot covers approximately 0.4 hectares on the steep terraces of Côte-Rôtie. The soil, composed of mica schist and iron oxides, demands deep root systems and a strong mineral expression. The vines, cultivated by hand on very steep slopes, benefit from a unique microclimate and meticulous work, giving this cuvée exceptional concentration and finesse.

Owner and history

Jean-Michel Gérin founded the estate in 1983, and his sons Michaël and Alexis later joined the adventure, continuing the legacy of six generations in Ampuis. Their vision is based on the faithful expression of the terroir, a commitment to organic viticulture, respect for tradition, and elegance as their objective. This commitment results in exceptional wines, among the purest and most demanding in Côte-Rôtie.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process involves full destemming, a long maceration of approximately four weeks, followed by aging for approximately 22 months in barrels, 40% of which are new wood.
For the La Landonne 2023 vintage, this aging process allows the material to be refined, the tannins to be structured gently and the nobility of the terroir to be expressed with precision.
