Description

Jean-Michel Gérin's Côte Bodin impresses with its ample structure and remarkably fine tannins. The wine reveals an intense bouquet of black fruit, spice, licorice, and violet, underpinned by elegant minerality. Its dense texture, remarkable purity, and fresh, lingering finish reveal a wine of character with excellent aging potential.

93-95 points VINOUS " Intense aromas of cherry, blackberry, exotic spices, and cola are complemented by a smoky mineral note and a hint of bacon fat. It offers concentrated flavors of red and black fruit jam and licorice lozenge, along with a spicy touch of black pepper. The finish is long and spicy, with chewy tannins and a floral note. "

Côte Bodin is a small lieu-dit of 0.7ha benefiting from a full south exposure, where the vines were planted in 1987. It is one of the most renowned parcels of Côte-Rôtie, where the granitic and schist soils, combined with steep slopes, give the Syrah a great finesse and a unique minerality.

2600 bottles produced in this vintage. Aged in oak barrels for 18 months, of which approximately 20% were new oak.

The estate's vineyards extend across the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie, notably on the Côte-Bodin parcel, a terroir predominantly composed of schist and mica schist facing southeast. The vines, over 30 years old, benefit from optimal sunshine and excellent drainage. Cultivated using sustainable farming practices, they produce grapes of exceptional concentration, precisely reflecting the mineral character and complexity of the Rhône terroir.

Owner and history

Jean-Michel Gerin, a talented winemaker and emblematic figure of Côte-Rôtie, now manages the estate with his sons Michaël and Alexis, in a spirit of both passing on tradition and modernizing the approach. Together, they pursue a vision of excellence by combining technical rigor, respect for the terroir, and innovation. Their constant involvement in the estate's development guarantees wines of great precision, expressiveness, and faithfulness to their origin, like this remarkable 2019 Côte-Bodin.

Vinification and aging

At Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin, winemaking is based on traditional methods: total destemming, fermentation in stainless steel tanks with punch-down, and temperature control for gentle extraction.
The 2019 Côte-Bodin vintage is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, imparting structure, aromatic complexity, and aging potential. This meticulous approach enhances the character of the terroir and yields a harmonious wine, capable of aging for many years.
