Description

Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Ferrière proudly embodies the classic elegance of great Médoc wines. Classified as a Third Growth since 1855 , this historic estate is distinguished by its modest size, making it the smallest of the classified growths in the official classification, but also one of the most meticulously cultivated. Thanks to biodynamic practices and meticulous winemaking, Ferrière wines intensely express the nobility of the Margaux terroir. The 2024 vintage promises finesse, structure, and exceptional aging potential.

The Château Ferrière vineyard covers approximately twenty hectares planted on deep gravelly soils, typical of the Margaux appellation. These poor but well-drained soils encourage deep root systems, ensuring an authentic expression of the terroir. The vines, cultivated biodynamically since 2015, receive meticulous attention, both agronomically and environmentally. This precise work preserves the natural balance of the soil and produces perfectly ripe grapes.

Owner and history

Since 1992, Château Ferrière has been managed by Claire Villars-Lurton, a member of a prominent Bordeaux winemaking family. A trained oenologist and pioneer in sustainable viticulture, she instills a dynamic approach resolutely focused on excellence and environmental responsibility. Her commitment to biodynamic farming, her exacting standards, and her deep respect for the terroir have allowed Ferrière to regain its rightful place among the great wines of Margaux. Her vision blends tradition, innovation, and respect for nature.

Vinification and aging

Château Ferrière practices plot-by-plot vinification, with fermentations in truncated conical wooden or stainless steel vats depending on the characteristics of each plot. Extraction is gentle and controlled to preserve the finesse of the tannins.
The 2024 vintage is then aged for 18 months, primarily in French oak barrels with a moderate proportion of new oak, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit. This approach allows the structure to be refined without overpowering the wine.
