Producer

Producer

The vineyard comprises 91 hectares of vines on exceptional terroir. In Old French, the earthen mound on which the vines are planted was called a "mouton" (sheep). The soil is composed of hillocks and marl-limestone, which helps retain the sun's heat.

Owner and history

Château Mouton Rothschild has belonged to the Rothschild family since 1853. Under the visionary leadership of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the estate experienced a meteoric rise, culminating in its ultimate recognition as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. Today, managed by his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, and her children, the château continues to blend tradition and innovation. Their ambition: to maintain Mouton at the pinnacle while committing the estate to sustainable and forward-looking viticulture. The meticulous care given to each vintage reflects a constant pursuit of excellence and a profound respect for the terroir.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process Château Mouton Rothschild 2021 was one of the biggest technical challenges of recent years. Unlike previous vintages where it was necessary to "manage the richness" due to the sun, in 2021, the work in the cellar consisted of seeking maturity and purity while protecting the vineyard.

The team's opinion

This is a "vertical" wine. The attack is lively and precise. The body is more elegant than previous vintages, supported by incredibly fine tannins. The balance is remarkable: the alcohol level is moderate (around 13%), allowing for a mouthwatering acidity and an incredibly persistent finish of fresh fruit.
