Château Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, brilliantly embodies the excellence of Bordeaux's Right Bank. Located at the edge of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, the estate is distinguished by its exceptional limestone terroir with asteria fossils. La Closerie de Fourtet, the château's second wine, draws all its finesse from this mineral matrix and benefits from the same meticulous care as the grand vin. The 2019 vintage expresses a superb balance between richness, freshness, and elegance, true to the estate's style. This precise and harmonious red wine reflects the identity of a dedicated estate and a prestigious terroir.

    Tasting notes

The 2019 La Closerie de Fourtet captivates with its intense garnet color and violet highlights. The nose opens with aromas of ripe black fruit, sloe, violet, and cedar. On the palate, the attack is supple, the mid-palate structured, with lovely freshness and velvety tannins. The long, balanced finish reveals a subtle touch of oak and notes of sweet spice, in a charming and elegant whole.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with a grilled rib of beef, roast pigeon with mushrooms or truffle risotto.

The Château Clos Fourtet vineyard stretches across 20 hectares of a unique limestone plateau, ideally situated on the Saint-Émilion hill. This clay-limestone terroir ensures excellent drainage and promotes even ripening of the grapes. The vines, averaging 30 years old for La Closerie de Fourtet, are cultivated with care, respecting the natural balance. This living soil, steeped in history, gives the wine its structure, freshness, and remarkable aromatic finesse.

    Owner and history

Since 2001, Château Clos Fourtet has been owned by the Cuvelier family, Bordeaux wine merchants for several generations. Under the leadership of Matthieu Cuvelier, the estate has reached a remarkable level of quality, combining rigorous viticultural practices, sustainable practices, and oenological precision. The team, guided by a respectful vision of the terroir, is committed to expressing the identity of the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau with wines of remarkable purity and depth, exemplified by La Closerie de Fourtet.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Clos Fourtet follows a rigorous plot-by-plot approach, with fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Extractions are gentle to preserve the elegance of the fruit.
The 2019 Closerie de Fourtet is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, approximately one-third of which are new. This careful aging adds complexity, refines the tannins, and enhances the pure expression of the limestone terroir, resulting in a harmonious and seductive wine.
